  1. What type of clothing do I need to bring for the tour? In Alberta, expect lots of sunshine, no matter what the season. But be warned: being close to the mountains means weather can change at a moment's notice. So follow the lead of Albertans, and be prepared! We would suggest a light jacket or sweater for evenings, and some light weight rain gear to deal with possible rain showers.
    • Temperature: Average Ranges in summer (June to August): 15½ C to 25½ C (60½ F to 77½ F)
    • Rain: Southeastern Alberta: 30 cm (11.8 inches) annually Northern Alberta: 40 - 45 cm (15.7 - 17.7 inches) annually Foothills Region: 55 - 60 cm (21.6 - 23.6 inches) annually.
    • Sunshine: Southern Alberta: 1900 hours annually Northern Alberta: 2300 hours annually.
  2. Are there any age constraints or physical demands of the tour that I should be aware of? Home on the Range Adventure Tours Ltd. itinerary gives you the opportunity to participate at your personal level of comfort. You may go horseback riding or hiking in the foothills if you wish, or you can amble around at your leisure and just soak up the scenery, the choice is yours. And, we promise not to put your name in for any of the rodeo events without consulting you first!
  3. What is the tour cancellation policy? Cancellations received by Home on the Range Adventure Tours Ltd. 60 days or more prior to departure will be subject to a CAN$100 per person/per tour fee. Cancellations received less than 60 days prior to departure will be subject to the following forfeit of tour fees, with the exception of cattle drives: 59-45 days, 10% of tour price; 44-30 days, 25% of tour price; 29-15 days, 50% of tour price; within 14 days, 100% of tour price. Cattle drive reservations require a 50% non-refundable deposit at the time of booking, with the non-refundable balance to be paid a minimum of 60 days in advance. Cattle drive bookings made less than 60 days in advance must provide a 100% non-refundable payment at the time of booking.

    Except for verifiable extenuating circumstances, refunds are not made for any missed tour services. For verifiable claims to be considered, they must be received in writing within 30 days of the termination of the tour. Any adjustment considered will be based on the actual cost of the services involved and not on a per diem basis. Adjustments will not be made for unused sightseeing trips or meals. Home on the Range Adventure Tours Ltd. will not accept any liability for any claims that are not received within 30 days of the termination of your tour.
  4. How do I find my way from the airport to the tour's meeting destination? To join one of our 4 or 5 day tours at the Kick-off Breakfast will be as simple as following the detailed instructions we will forward to you prior to your departing from home on your holiday. If you are joining our 7 day tour, and have given our office at least seven days advance notice, we will arrange for one of our qualified staff to pick you up at your arrival point in Calgary and transport you to Homeplace Ranch on the Saturday that your tour begins. If you are arriving prior to the Saturday when you tour begins, let us know and we will send you travel and accommodation guides and maps of the local area. Please allow three to four weeks for delivery.
  5. How do I get to Calgary, Alberta? We recommend that you check with your local travel agent to obtain information on international and domestic flights to and from Calgary. If you have any additional questions on flight availability, please contact our office and our qualified staff will do their best to provide you with all available information.
  6. What activities are available in the area if I arrive in advance of the tour or stay on afterwards? If you will be arriving in Alberta prior to the tour, or plan to stay on after the tour, advise Home on the Range Adventure Tours Ltd. of your plans and we will send you travel and accommodation guides and maps of the local area. Please allow three to four weeks for delivery.
  7. What currency do I need in Canada? How about credit cards? While traveling in Canada you will need to have Canadian Dollars. However, travelers cheques in all major currencies can be cashed at any Canadian financial institution, and they have large numbers of available outlets. HINT: You will find it more economical to purchase travelers cheques in your domestic currency so that you do not have to pay an exchange fee to transfer any excess funds back into your home currency. Canada also has an extensive ATM (bank machine) network from which you can withdraw cash. All major credit cards are accepted by the vast majority of Canadian merchants.
  8. Are there any special immunization or health requirements? There are no immunization requirements for those who visit Canada. It is however, wise to ensure that you have a letter from your physician authorizing you to carry any medications you require during your visit. This may be requested by Canadian immigration authorities on your arrival in Canada.
  9. What are the security and insurance considerations for travel in Canada?There is absolutely no need to take any additional security precautions, beyond the normal good sense safety measures put into practice on any trip, while visiting Canada. We strongly recommend trip cancellation and interruption insurance, plus medical insurance which covers medical evacuation. You can contact your insurance or travel agent to inquire as to the availability of insurance for the duration of your trip.
  10. What documents do I require for entry to Canada? The normal requirement for residents of most countries to enter Canada is a valid passport from your country of residence. If you are unsure as to weather this covers your situation please contact your travel agent, local Canadian Embassy, or have us inquire on your behalf.
  11. Am I required to participate in all of the tours activities? Which of the scheduled events you take part in, and to what degree, is completely up to you. We do require that you be available at the specified time and location for all transportation departures – a detailed schedule will be provided on your arrival. The tour is designed for your pleasure, and we want to provide you with all the flexibility possible. However, the cost of events, meals, and activities that you elect not to take part in will not be refunded.
  12. Is this a family vacation? We welcome family members of all ages. Home on the Range Adventure Tours Ltd.’s experiences are designed for the enjoyment of participants of all ages. More senior members of the family can participate at their comfort level, and the majority of the tour activities are selected with the enjoyment of the entire family in mind. The only components of our adventure experiences that have an age restriction, for the safety of the participants, are horseback riding and white water rafting. However, there are ample alternate activities available. Therefore, we feel that this unique adventure is well suited to a total family experience.
  13. How would you describe a Native American Powwow? For those who are not familiar with the Native American culture, powwows are celebrations, social gatherings and friendly competitions of traditional dancing, drumming, singing, ceremonies and feasting, and the bringing of many nations of people together. Everyone is welcome regardless of race, creed, religion, or color.
