The question has often been asked, “Why does our company want to use incentive travel?” At Home On The Range Adventure Tours we believe that there is no better way to reward clients or employees for exceptional sales and customer satisfaction results than to provide them with an extraordinary travel experience. Travel incentives are a proven way to motivate employees and enhance performance. As well, people will work hard to earn the reward, and those who travel together invariability become friends because they get to know each other better in a relaxed environment. And, always keep in mind that motivated, well rewarded employees and customers are easier to retain. This helps to ensure future high levels of performance and results.

Sample Programs

Cattle Drive

Home On The Range Adventure Tours, a Calgary-based tour operator, has added one of the west’s most exhilarating experiences to its repertoire of Incentive Travel options. The ranchers of southern Alberta move their cattle into, between or out of pastures at various times during the year. Incentive Travel groups can now join one of these authentic CATTLE DRIVE expeditions.

IMAGINE your group of up to 30 people spending two days herding cattle across the rolling countryside of the Porcupine Hills. Your group of ‘cattle wranglers’ will eat out on the trail, spend the night in a trail camp under the stars, savour BBQ Alberta beef for dinner and enjoy cowboy poets, traditional western entertainment and stories of the west around the campfire.

The group will be accompanied by highly experienced working cowboys who see that you get the most from the experience while receiving the best of care and attention. And, what’s even better, is that the participants do not require riding experience; novices are welcome as well as seasoned riders. This western experience adventure is designed for corporate groups looking to explore the uniquely authentic flavour of the traditional west.

Home On The Range Adventure Tours delivers personal and corporate western experiences throughout Alberta and the Rocky Mountains. We offer customized itineraries that include Incentive Travel and Team Building programs. An abundance of additional suggestions and ideas are available on this page under the Additional Incentive Travel Activities.

The Incentive Cattle Drive may be only two days in a group’s total program, however, Home On The Range Adventure Tours’ knowledge of the area and their broad range and variety of Corporate Team Building programs can be utilized to develop a complete itinerary for any group.

Wild West Rodeo

The best way for your group to enjoy a Wild West Rodeo is to see it UP CLOSE. And the best way to accomplish that is to host a private demonstration rodeo exclusively for your group! We will deliver your private Wild West Rodeo at various locations throughout Alberta. Your group has the grandstand to themselves as they are treated to their very own multi-event rodeo. At the rodeo, they will experience the adrenalin rush of the cowboys' eternal battle to overcome the raw power of the untamed animals of the west. They will feel the exhilaration and excitement of watching bucking broncos, bull riders, steer wrestlers, calf ropers, and barrel racers. This private Wild West Rodeo runs for approximately one hour, and is especially effective when combined with a chili and/or BBQ hamburger lunch, or followed by a complete BBQ dinner.

Traditional Trails in the Wild Woods

Day 1

The first day starts with a meet and greet plus an in- depth information session to help participants understand the animals in the area and reduce the apprehension associated with camping and hiking in bear country. With education comes understanding and ease which makes the outdoor experience a pleasant one.

Then you:

Option 1:

Lace up your hiking boots for a two hour trail walk through the wilderness to Trapper’s Hill Camp where you will spend the next two nights. Your guides will share the history of the area, and you can soak up the panoramic beauty and scenic look-offs of this majestic Rocky Mountain paradise.

Option 2:

Climb aboard your personally assigned horse for your journey to Trapper’s Hill Camp. Your horseback trail ride provides the opportunity to enjoy a taste of the back country and share this memorable Rocky Mountain experience with your tour companions.

This afternoon participants will take part in a team building program that challenges their skills as 19th century Métis Trappers.

The Challenge: The group will be shown a series of Bushcraft lessons that will enable them to complete certain elements of required tasks. These lessons are based on traditional survival/primitive skills practiced by Métis trappers in the 1800’s. There will then be a competition between teams where they will complete six tasks. Each of the tasks, if performed successfully, will earn the team a reward that will contribute toward their becoming the winning team. Teams must be vigilant once they receive a reward, as they could potentially lose it at the next task! Various challenges will be thrown at each team to test their ability to work together as a cohesive unit.

Day 2

The second day is dedicated to many of the traditional Bush-craft skills (i.e. make your own moccasins – to take home) used by both the Aboriginal people and those first European explorers that came to make a home in Canada. Your guides help to empower the participants with skills that create a sense of independence and self-reliance for any future camping trips or ventures into the back country. Fire making, shelter construction, rope making skills, and making a container from natural resources are just some of the skills that will increase everyone’s self-confidence in the outdoors. The fire making sessions cover a wide variety of ways to start fires, the different uses for fire such as fires for cooking, signal fires and fires for warmth and how each one is built differently.

Day 3

On the third day guests are taken on a hike offering either an easy or slightly more strenuous option. Walks become miniature voyages of discovery, for example; we find certain plants and discuss their value as medicines, food or hard-wear. Skills in tracking both humans and animals are learned & practiced while observing the surrounding animal habitat and how we, as humans, should "walk softly". For those who have a keen interest in learning to map read, instructors will teach some basics as well as demonstrating how not to get lost in the woods. Or perhaps just a chance to enjoy the sights. Depending on the hiking option; pristine waterfalls, vistas of the valley from stunning view points, peaceful streams and rivers meandering through the valley floor and of course the majestic peaks of the snow capped Rocky Mountains are a few of the highlights.
